Marimba One Artists

Mr. Phillip Payne is currently a percussion instructor at Edison High School in Milan, Ohio, and a Music Educator at Ohio Virtual Academy.   

Mr. Payne completed his Bachelor of Music Education at Heidelberg University in 2009. He has been a percussion instructor at Edison for the past 19 years and has taught Music Appreciation online for 13 years.  

At Heidelberg, Mr. Payne was taught percussion by Mr. William Bleyle. This is where he was first introduced to the marimba and four mallet technique. Later, this interest expanded, and Mr. Payne bought his first marimba in 2017.   

At Edison, most work has been concentrated on the drum line and Solo and Ensemble contest. In 2017, Mr. Payne helped orchestrate the school’s first ever marimba purchase. Since then, Mr. Payne has worked with over a dozen students on the marimba, teaching them four mallet technique. Over a dozen solos or ensembles have been taken to contest with all of them earning either a superior 1 rating or an excellent 2 rating.  

Mr. Payne has decided to continue his passion for expanding marimba education and looks forward to giving future clinics and promoting Marimba One!
