Julie Strom
A two-time recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship (Germany), Dr. Julie Strom has taught, performed and recorded internationally as an orchestral and chamber musician and educator. As Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Northern Colorado, she encourages her students to expand the “classical” tradition with other forms of music, art, theater and dance. Her work in networking, arts consulting and innovation have been featured at PASIC (2020), at universities like UCLA and Florida State, and on the shows “@percussion” and “Pete’s Percussion Podcast.” Her writing has been published in Percussive Notes.
Strom plays regularly with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and has played with the Munich Symphonic Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and Toronto Concert Orchestra, among others. In 2015, she premiered Schlagzeug Konzert by Marco Hertenstein in Ontario, Canada. Other highlights include Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion with pianist Martha Argerich (Lübeck, Germany), Darius Milhaud's Concerto pour Percussion et Petit Orchestre with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, performing an onstage role on Broadway in New York, and writing, producing and performing her own theater percussion show entitled, Alice On Time.
Strom serves on the PAS University Pedagogy Committee and is Vice President of the Colorado chapter of PAS. She is a proud Marimba One Educational Artist.
