Weichen is a celebrated marimba performer and percussionist, known for his versatility in solo, chamber, contemporary, and orchestral music. He served as a member of the Percussive Arts Society Keyboard Committee (2016–2022) and performed with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (2016–2019). A dynamic international artist, Weichen collaborates with Duo LinLynn, whose debut album Stars Above earned a Gold Medal at the Global Music Awards in 2024. He is a core member of ToolBox Percussion in Hong Kong and currently serves as Assistant Professor at National Chiayi University in Taiwan. In Spring 2025, he joined Boston University, his alma mater, as a marimba faculty member.
Weichen has performed as a concerto soloist with ensembles such as the Houston Symphony, Helena Symphony, Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and Boston University Symphony Orchestra. His worldwide performances and masterclasses span Australia, China, Italy, Japan, the United States, and more. He has premiered works by composers Yao Chen and Julie Spencer, including Azura for marimba solo and the Zalan-Zalan Percussion Concerto.
An experienced adjudicator, Weichen has judged competitions like the Taiwan Music Competition, Australian Marimba Competition, and MarimbaFest. He has received numerous awards, including First Prize at the 2008 Classical Marimba League International Artist Competition and the 2007 Italy PAS Percussion Competition. Weichen is a recipient of the 2013 NTCH Young Star Series Award and the 2017 Outstanding Alumni Award from Taipei National University of the Arts.
Weichen’s career highlights include touring internationally with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and performing at prestigious festivals like the Lucerne Festival and BBC Proms. He has worked with esteemed conductors such as Long Yu, Sir Andrew Davis, and Bernard Haitink.
Weichen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Taipei National University of the Arts before moving to the United States in 2006. He continued his studies at Boston University, where he completed both his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees under the mentorship of Tim Genis. In 2016, he furthered his specialization in marimba performance by obtaining an Artist Diploma from The Boston Conservatory under the guidance of Nancy Zeltsman.
